Myra Teak is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Tucson, Arizona, working at the intersection of abstraction, natural form, and structural design. With a background in communication studies and linguistics, Teak brings a deep awareness of systems, repetition, and rhythm into her art practice, using shape and texture as a form of visual language and storytelling.
Much of her recent work is rooted in the desert. Its plants, animals, and geological layers serve as a source of inspiration, and her pieces often explore the architecture of the natural world. Each composition begins with watercolor washes and precise linework, often layered with collage, paper embroidery, or metallic accents. The results are structured yet organic, analytical yet emotional.
Teak’s art is also informed by her neurodivergence, which shapes the way she perceives space, pattern, and connection. Her series often investigate themes of place, memory, and resilience, balancing control with chance and geometry with gesture.
In addition to her studio practice, Myra is an active member of regional art organizations. She exhibits nationally in juried exhibitions and has been recognized through awards and inclusion in competitive shows. She is currently developing new bodies of work that extend her investigation of layered systems.
